Good debut for Valcar – Travel & Service which conquers the podium at the Vuelta CV Feminas thanks to the second place of Ilaria Sanguineti. The race was won by the Italian Marta Bastianelli; during the sprint also a crash without serious consequences for Chiara Consonni.
The race was regular: only in the last 20 km there were attacks with Eleonora Gasparrini very active on the head of the bunch. Unfortunately, at -5 km to go, Eleonora was involved in a crash that prevented her from taking part in the sprint train.
Despite the absence of Gasparrini, the Valcar – Travel & Service girls moved well. Ilaria Sanguineti follows Marta Bastianelli and throws the sprint for Chiara Consonni. But when Chiara started her progression, the sprinter comes into contact with Barbara Guarischi and hits the ground. Despite this drawback, Ilaria Sanguineti is very good at finishing in second position. The performances of the French Margaux Vigié, the Polish Karolina Kumiega and the Canadian Olivia Baril were also positive.
“I finished second, but we are not satisfied – says an embittered Ilaria Sanguineti – if I placed second by working for Chiara’s sprint, maybe without the crash we could fight for the victory. I am happy for my personal feelings, but it was not the beginning we wanted. We will certainly have many other opportunities, this is not what demoralizes us. Now the most important thing is that Chiara and Eleonora feel fine”.
